St. Barnabas Catholic School, located in Indianapolis, Indiana, opened its doors in 1965, built on a foundation of Catholic faith and strong scholastic expectations. It has flourished in the ensuing years by offering a balance of outstanding academic instruction and religious formation. St. Barnabas Parish has been committed to total stewardship since its beginning and, as a ministry of the parish, our tuition-free school is supported through the time, talent, and treasure of the parish families. Our mission of helping children to “GROW IN MIND, HEART, AND SPIRIT TO BECOME LEADERS IN THE WORLD” flows from this commitment and guides what we do each day.
St. Barnabas' excellence in education is a result of its solid commitment to exemplary teaching and cooperative partnership with parents. Students understand the importance of being prepared for the next level and work diligently to achieve success. Involvement in service to others is integral in their development daily, with our Catholic faith as the foundation for all actions Parental involvement is vital to the success of St. Barnabas students and teachers. Nearly all support the school through some form of volunteerism. They are active in their children’s learning and contribute their gifts to support the school ministry.
Our faculty and staff are a major strength, dedicated to helping each child grow. At St. Barnabas it is believed that it is not sufficient to only develop good students; we are also committed to developing good people.
Students at Saint Barnabas have consistently ranked in the upper percentiles of standardized achievement tests administered annually and have shown consistent value-added growth on multiple measures. Our students are presented with the challenges of learning for a world that is rapidly evolving. The focus on teaching what is essential and the integration of technology are strengths at St. Barnabas. Through a variety of creative means, all classrooms have been equipped with the latest technology for learning.
Finally, our commitment to service is one of our biggest strengths. Educating St. Barnabas students means school-wide opportunities for monthly service projects as our students learn that they can make a difference in the world and have a responsibility to do so because of the gifts they have been given. Coupled with service traditions are a wide range of curricular and extra-curricular traditions that further guide our students to grow in mind, heart, and spirit.
Through strong curriculum awareness, progressive instructional practices, and the spirit of shared mission, our students are nurtured and challenged. As a result they exhibit outstanding success academically and spiritually. Our school is truly a school of excellence.
St. Barnabas School was named a No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School in 2004 by the United States Department of Education and has built on the strong academic success each year through the TAP (Teacher Advancement Program) in place since 2002.
